WHAT IS A HUMMUS PLATE?
A hummus plate, also known as a hummus platter, is a mezze-style dish that features hummus as the centerpiece, typically accompanied by an assortment of toppings like vegetables, proteins, herbs, and spices.
It’s stunning, easy to assemble, and endlessly customizable depending on the season or what you have on hand.
SPRING HUMMUS PLATE INGREDIENTS
Hummus – Use my homemade hummus recipe or opt for your favorite store-bought brand. For best flavor, use one with a smooth, creamy consistency.
Salami – Adds a savory, rich contrast to the creamy hummus. Use thinly sliced salami to easily form a rose.
Marinated chickpeas – Found at Trader Joe’s or made at home by tossing canned chickpeas with olive oil, lemon juice, oregano, cumin, and parsley.
Extra virgin olive oil – A generous drizzle over the top adds richness and helps blend flavors.
Paprika – Adds a pop of color and mild smoky flavor.
Dried oregano – Complements the Mediterranean flavors.
Mint leaves – For a fresh, springy garnish.
Baby carrots, cucumber, and pita chips – optional sides for dipping and scooping. Use gluten-free chips if needed.
HOW TO MAKE A SPRING HUMMUS PLATE
Step 1: Create Hummus Flower
Transfer homemade hummus (or use store-bought) to the center of a large round plate. Using the back of a spoon, drag from the center outward in petal-like strokes to create 11 “flower petals.” Press down gently to form ridges without scraping the plate.
Step 2: Make Salami Rose
Use a champagne flute or small wine glass. Fold each piece of salami over the rim of the glass, overlapping slightly. Repeat until the glass is filled. Gently flip the glass to release the rose onto a plate.
Step 3: Assemble and Garnish
Place the salami rose in the center of the hummus flower. Add marinated chickpeas around the rose and place mint leaves on both sides as “leaves”. Garnish each petal with a drizzle of olive oil, paprika, and dried oregano.
Step 4: Serve
Serve your hummus plate with crisp baby carrots, cucumber slices, and pita chips for dipping. Arrange everything on a wooden board or round platter for presentation.
HOSTING TIP
This spring hummus plate is ideal for Easter brunch, Mother’s Day, baby showers, or any springtime gathering.
Serve it as a centerpiece on a grazing board and pair it with crisp white wine or sparkling water for a chic Mediterranean appetizer.
Enjoy customizing it to your liking by swapping in seasonal veggies or other charcuterie favorites.
